It's all well and good that we are attempting to address the software patent system but the myth of beneficial medical patents still prevails. Just like software patents, medical patents have a long and rich history of stifling innovation. Don't buy the lies wholesale - look at the evidence and make your own decision.
Which means they are necessary to preserve status-quo profit margins. And the people with the microphone who control the hand of law are those who really like their status-quo.
