The pixel format description on page 6 still makes my mouth water:
- bitmapped formats up to 16 bitplanes
- paletted chunky formats for 2/4/8 bits per pixel, and 16/24 bits per pixel without color palette
- block-compressed pixel formats with 12x and 6x compression ratio (looks quite similar to modern hardware-compressed texture formats used in 3D rendering - more details on page 123)
