No, Hacker News is not for that kind of hacker.

We are the original hackers.


Woz is known to have fooled around with RF jammers. He was quite a prankster. Most of the hackers I tell the story to have either already heard it -- and smile approvingly, or find it terribly amusing.

There's more overlap than many care to admit.


Technically, the earliest modern hackers were radio enthusiasts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_%28computing%29#History).

So, that kind of hacking is far closer to the 'original hackers' than software hacking.


If we define the term "hacking" more broadly even Wikipedia's history is wrong/limited. Hacking to me has always been the process of dissecting something and figuring out how it works. I would imagine there were lots of hackers even before radio came around.


I know. It still bugs me that the modern interpretation of "hacking" is "doing something illegal".
